PuckPuck, a Great Companion for Aeropress to Brew Cold Brew Coffee

this device was created by london’s trendy two at six studio. it was initially launched through a kickstarter campaign but is now widely available for purchase online.

how does puckpuck work?

puckpuck is essentially an adjustable plastic valve that attaches to the top of an aeropress. to use it, simply fill the aeropress chamber with ground coffee and place the standard aeropress filter. then, add a plastic component called the “splash filter” on top of the coffee grounds.

next, attach the puckpuck unit itself, along with water and ice cubes. the top of the valve features a screw where you can connect a water reservoir—or even an inverted mineral water bottle.

the chamber is designed to hold 400ml of water and 100ml of ice. the valve mechanism consists of two stacked discs that rotate to control the drip rate, allowing water to flow at a controlled pace through the aeropress.

this dripper can produce approximately 500ml of cold brew coffee in two and a half to three hours. adjusting the valve lets you fine-tune the drip speed based on your preferred extraction time and taste profile.

according to the puckpuck guide, the ideal flow rate is 50 drips per minute, which takes around three hours to complete. but how can you ensure you're getting exactly 50 drips per minute? that's where the puckpuck app comes in.

puckpuck comes with an app that helps you track the drip rate effortlessly. available on both android and ios, the app functions as a simple touch button. as you set up your cold brew station, you can rotate the top and bottom parts of the puckpuck to increase or decrease the flow rate.
